An important meeting of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) i.e. CPM is going to be held in Madurai. A political proposal has been prepared for this meeting, which has created a stir in the Left Ashram. Actually, this proposal states that the government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi is neither fascist nor neo-fascist. This proposal also explains why the Modi government cannot be called fascist.
Proposal approved in Kolkata meeting
The Central Committee meeting of the CPM was held in Kolkata between 17 and 19 January. In this meeting, the draft of this political proposal was approved. After this, the notes related to this proposal were sent to the state units. However, now a controversy has started regarding this proposal. Congress has reacted sharply to this, while within the CPI (Marxist) also there is a demand for reconsideration on this. Many leaders of the party objected to this and said that this haste to avoid calling the Modi government fascist is beyond comprehension.
Reaction of CPI and Congress
CPI state secretary Binoy Vishwam reacted strongly to this proposal. He said, “Fascist ideology teaches how religion and faith can be used for political gain and the BJP government is implementing it in practice.”
At the same time, Congress leader V. D. Satishan also took a tough stand on this and said that this assessment of CPM is part of the decision to ally with Modi and work under the Sangh. He also accused CPM of having secret relations with BJP.
‘CPM’s secret relations with BJP exposed’
While talking to journalists in Malappuram, Congress leader V. D. Satishan said that this new conclusion of CPM is not surprising. He alleged that for years there has been a secret relationship between CPM and BJP and now an attempt is being made to legitimize it through this document. He said, “In Kerala, CPM has always been in agreement with fascism and Sangh. This new document is an attempt to save itself in any way and remain in power.”

He further said that the members of Kerala Politburo of CPM have played a key role in preparing this document.
CPM’s clarification, never considered Modi government as fascist
Giving clarification on behalf of CPM, Central Committee member A. K. Balan said that the party never considered the Modi government as fascist. He said that there can be differences of opinion among the left parties on this issue, but the party’s stand is clear.
Is the Modi government really not fascist?
After this new proposal of the CPM, a heated debate has erupted in the political corridors. While the Congress and the CPI are calling it a conspiracy to form an alliance with the BJP, different opinions are emerging on this within the CPM itself.
Some political analysts believe that this new stance of the CPM can be a part of political strategy. Actually, there is a tough political competition between the Congress and the CPM in Kerala. In the anti-BJP politics, the Congress is presenting itself as a strong alternative, while the CPM is also trying to save its base. In such a situation, the CPM can benefit by adopting a soft stand towards the Modi government.
The political impact of this proposal of CPM can be far-reaching.
- Similarity in the Left: After this proposal, a deep similarity can be seen between CPM and Sea Cruise. Both have had different opinions on many mosques in the past, but this fish is quite attractive.
- Against Congress and CPM: Congress is already against CPM in Kerala. After this proposal, Congress has got another opportunity to attack the Left Front.
- Benefit to BJP? This advantage of BJP can prove that the biggest advantage is that the Modi government is not fascist. This can help BJP in identifying its image.
- CPM’s strategy: It is possible that CPM is trying to fulfill its political interests through this new stance. Especially in Kerala, the strategy of the party and the strategy of BJP-Congress can be different.
This proposal of CPM has created a stir not only within the Left Ashram but in the entire organization. The Congress and CUS Cruise have put forward this classical strand, while the CMP is stating the official stand of the party. This political proposal can have far-reaching effects, as it will not only affect the politics within the Left, but will also give a new direction to the Congress and the BJP as well.
Now it will be interesting to see what decision is taken on this proposal in the meeting to be held in Madurai and what changes are made in it.
