Social media giant Meta fired one of its employees just because he shared confidential company information with his wife. The name of this employee is Riley Burton , who was working as a software engineer at Meta. Burton claims that he was supposed to get a bonus the very next day after he was fired. This matter is not limited to Burton only, but he alleges that hundreds of employees have also been fired from Meta for the same reason , because they shared things about work pressure with their spouses.
Zuckerberg shared his internal post with his wife
According to media reports, Riley Burton had sent part of an internal post of Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg to his wife. In this post, Zuckerberg had talked about taking strict action against those employees who were not working properly in the company.
However, Burton says that before he shared this information with his wife, two big media houses had already published this news. Despite this, Meta considered it a violation of its company policy and took immediate action and fired him from the job.
I had to lose my bonus too
Burton had received good ratings in the company based on his performance and was about to receive a bonus. But, his bonus was to be received the very next day after he was fired. Due to this incident, he not only lost his job but also did not receive the bonus that was set for his excellent performance.

Burton further said that he is not the only employee facing such a situation. According to him, Meta fired hundreds of employees because they shared work stress with their partners.
What did Meta say in his defense?
Meta has refused to make a direct statement on the matter, but in a statement issued earlier by the company, it was said that leaking internal information is a violation of company policy.
Meta clarified that, “No employee is allowed to share confidential company information outside. Such cases will be taken seriously, and strict action will be taken once the leak is confirmed.”
Is such policy of companies correct?
Burton’s case has given rise to the debate as to whether employees should not also have the freedom to talk to their spouses about work stress? Many experts believe that it is important to keep work and private life separate, but policies that intimidate employees so much are also not right.
Big companies like Meta take violations of their policies seriously, but if employees are not allowed to talk openly even about their personal lives, it can increase mental stress. It will be interesting to see whether Meta makes any changes to its policy after this case or not.
