More than 400 vehicles were reduced to ashes in a fire that broke out at a police warehouse in Delhi’s Nehru Place on Thursday (3 April). A Delhi Traffic Police official said that an FIR has been registered in connection with the incident to ascertain if there is any conspiracy behind the incident.
As soon as information about the fire was received, the fire department started action
The Delhi Fire Service received a call about a fire at the police warehouse at Nehru Place at around 2 pm. According to eyewitnesses, the fire was so fierce that black smoke was visible from a distance and the fire quickly engulfed the vehicles. Initially, the Delhi Fire Service had said that about 50 vehicles parked in the warehouse, including two-wheelers, three-wheelers and four-wheelers, were burnt to ashes.

The fire was brought under control within three hours
Delhi Police issued a statement saying that more than 400 vehicles were burnt to ashes in the fire. The statement said, “At the time of the incident, 2,667 confiscated vehicles were parked in the warehouse, out of which about 400 vehicles were completely burnt. The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained.” It took more than three hours to control the massive fire, and during this time flames and smoke spread to the sky.
Vehicle owners will not get compensation
Delhi Police clarified that the owners of the vehicles burnt in this incident will not get compensation. Only the insurance amount can be claimed. He told that this warehouse is owned by Delhi Traffic Police, and a large number of two-four wheelers seized by the traffic police were kept in it. Police said that the cause of the fire is not known at the moment, and investigation is going on.
