JioHotstar: JioHostar has taken a long leap in the OTT race and has achieved the title of the third largest player in the world. In the IPL season the paid subscriber base of Jio Hotstar has crossed 200 million i.e. 20 crores. After the recent merger of Reliance Industries and Walt Disney JioCinema and Disney+ Hotstar have been integrated. After the coming together of these two OTT platforms the reign of Netflix and Amazon Prime Video is in danger.
India’s largest OTT player
JioHotstar is currently the largest OTT platform in India. The company’s CEO Uday Shankar has expressed happiness over the large number of paid subscribers joining in India in such a short time. Talking about paid subscribers only Netflix and Prime Video have more users than JioHostar in the whole world. Not only this a new race is going on in India between these three OTT platforms.
The main reason for the large number of paid subscribers joining JioHotstar is the cheap subscription plan of the company. Jio Hotstar’s subscription plan is much lower than any other OTT app. Apart from this Jio is offering free subscription of Jio Hotstar for 90 days to users with many of its recharge plans. Such offers encourage users to join the OTT platform. Also Jio Hotstar has the rights to almost all cricket tournaments due to which the number of users is increasing rapidly.

On the other hand Netflix’s focus is on original local content. While Amazon Prime Video has partnered with Apple TV+ and Crunchyroll to increase the number of its subscribers. After this deal between Jio and Walt Disney the Champions Trophy as well as IPL have also contributed significantly in increasing the userbase of JioHotstar.
