Cybernews research revealed that security-related information (such as passwords, API keys, and encryption keys) was publicly available in the code of five iOS dating apps of MAD Mobile Apps Developers Limited. With the help of this ‘secret information’, anyone could have accessed the private photos of users, which were stored in Google Cloud Storage. This leak has put the confidential information of millions of users at risk, causing a serious invasion of their privacy.
How many photos were leaked and which apps were affected
According to the report, about 15 lakh photos have been leaked, which include photos sent by users in chat, deleted photos, profile photos and photos uploaded for verification. The apps from which these photos were leaked mainly include “BDSM People”, “Brish”, “Chica”, “Pink” and “Translate”. About 16 lakh data has been leaked from the BDSM People app, which includes 5.41 lakh chat photos, 18,000 deleted photos, 90,000 chat photos and 28,000 verification photos. Apart from this, 23,000 verification photos and 94,000 profile photos have been leaked from the Chica app. Sensitive data has also been leaked from three apps of the LGBTQ+ community, posing a major threat to privacy.
