Telecom regulator TRAI has released new figures of users added and lost by telecom companies in January 2025. According to this report, Airtel and Jio have added millions of new users on their networks, while BSNL and Vodafone Idea have lost millions of users. The number of mobile users in India has also increased rapidly. This month’s figure has registered an increase of 0.55%.
Number reached 115 crore mobile users
According to TRAI data, the number of wireless (mobile) users in India has now reached 1150.66 million i.e. 115.6 crores. This time the regulator has also included the number of 5G users in the mobile category, which was earlier in the fixed wireline category. This is the reason why the number of mobile users saw an increase this month.
Airtel and Jio added the most users
In January 2025, Airtel added 1.65 million i.e. 16.5 lakh new users to its network, which is the highest. At the same time, Reliance Jio has also added 0.68 million i.e. 6.8 lakh new users. On the other hand, Vodafone Idea has suffered the most. This company has lost about 1.33 million i.e. 13 lakh users. Apart from this, government telecom company BSNL has also lost about one and a half lakh users.
Change in market share
Jio added more than 6 lakh new users, increasing its market share to 40.46 percent. Now Jio has 46.58 crore users. Airtel remains in second place, its market share has gone up to 33.61 percent and the company has 38.69 crore users. Vodafone Idea’s market share has dropped to 17.89 percent and now it has 20.59 crore users. Whereas, BSNL’s market share has dropped to just 7.95 percent and it has 9.15 crore users. In this way, out of the total mobile subscribers in India, 91.96 percent users are with private telecom companies.
