BJP leader Mohsin Raza recently voiced strong support for the Waqf Amendment Bill 2024, claiming that the legislation will bring much-needed welfare to the oppressed and backward Muslims in the country. According to Raza, the current system has failed to serve the Muslim community, and this amendment marks a significant step toward their upliftment.
Waqf Properties and the Failure of Previous Governments
Raza criticized the handling of Waqf properties by past governments, stating that they have primarily benefited Muslim religious leaders and politicians, while ordinary Muslims have been left out. He accused political parties like the Samajwadi Party and Congress of protecting these Waqf properties, thus preventing them from being used for the welfare of the general Muslim population.
“Till date, there has never been any welfare of the oppressed, backward Muslims through Waqf. The Modi government is going to work for the upliftment of crores of Muslims through this amendment,” Raza said, emphasizing that this bill would finally bring real change.
Waqf Muslim Welfare Day: A Historic Day for Muslims
In a statement that could resonate strongly with Muslim communities across the country, Raza declared that “Tomorrow will be known as Waqf Muslim Welfare Day.” He expressed confidence that the new amendment would mark the beginning of a new era of progress for Muslims in India, particularly for those in the downtrodden and backward sections of the community.
He went on to highlight how the amendment would provide opportunities for the Muslim youth, helping them access better education and employment prospects. According to Raza, this move will ensure the welfare of millions of Muslims, who have historically been left behind.
Countering the Protests Against the Amendment
Raza also addressed the protests against the Waqf Amendment Bill, particularly those involving Muslims wearing black bands on the streets. He suggested that these protests were being led by a small group of individuals who have benefited from the control of Waqf properties since independence.
“These are not ordinary Muslims,” he said. “These are a few Muslims who have occupied Waqf properties. Ever since these boards were formed, Congress and other parties have taken away the powers of the boards, and now they are trying to mislead the people.”
Modi Government’s Commitment to Justice and Welfare
Raza reiterated that the Modi government’s Waqf Amendment Bill was all about providing justice to the Muslim community. He stressed that the legislation would bring long-overdue benefits to the most marginalized sections of the community.
“This amendment will provide justice to the Muslim community and will also be beneficial for them,” he concluded, asserting that the changes would be a win for the Muslim masses who have not seen the benefits of Waqf properties in the past.
The debate around the Waqf Amendment Bill 2024 continues to spark strong reactions. While critics argue that it could lead to the politicization of Waqf properties, Raza’s comments reflect the government’s intention to redirect the resources for the welfare of ordinary Muslims. As the discussions unfold, the bill’s true impact on the community will likely become clearer in the coming months.
