Health experts say that ignoring vitamin D deficiency is not only harmful to the body but can also cause many serious diseases. According to Dr. Sunil Chaudhary, Associate Director and Head Orthopedics, Asian Hospital, vitamin D is an extremely important nutrient not only for bones but for the entire body.

What is the role of vitamin D in the body?

Vitamin D helps the body absorb calcium and phosphorus, which are essential for keeping bones, teeth and muscles strong. Apart from this, vitamin D also strengthens the body’s immunity. It affects not only bones but overall health. When there is a deficiency of it in the body, the risk of many types of diseases in the body increases.

Diseases caused by Vitamin D deficiency

Vitamin D deficiency can lead to a variety of diseases. The most common diseases are:

Osteomalacia (in adults): This disease occurs in adults in which bones pain and muscle weakness are felt.

Muscle pain and fatigue: Body fatigue and muscle pain even without doing much work can be a sign of vitamin D deficiency.

Immune deficiency: Vitamin D deficiency weakens the immune system, which increases the risk of cold and other infections.

Ways to avoid vitamin D deficiency

Sunbathing: Nowadays people often try to avoid sunlight, due to which vitamin D is not produced naturally in the body. Every person should sit in the morning sun for 15-20 minutes at least 3-4 times a week. Especially 20-30 minutes of sunlight between 7 and 10 in the morning is a natural source of vitamin D.

Improvement in diet: Include things like eggs, fish, milk, yogurt, cheese and mushrooms in the diet, as they are rich in vitamin D.

Also, especially those people who spend more time in office or home should get vitamin D checked regularly. Many serious diseases can be avoided by fulfilling it on time.
