Renowned drugmaker Eli Lilly on Thursday launched Monjaro (Tirzepatide) in India. This drug will be given as a weekly injection to treat obesity and type-2 diabetes. The company has received approval from India’s Central Drugs Standard Control Organization (CDSCO) to launch this drug. However, according to a Moneycontrol report, the company has not yet disclosed the price of Monjaro in India. There is a huge demand for this drug in the US and Europe. According to a US study, tirzepatide (Monjaro) was tested on people with obesity. This is known as the SURMOUNT-1 clinical trial . In this trial, patients taking the highest dose (15mg) lost an average of 21.8 kg, while those taking the lowest dose (5mg) lost an average of 15.4 kg over 72 weeks.
In addition, one in three people lost more than 25% of their body weight, compared to just 1.5% in the placebo group. This trial proved Monjaro’s effectiveness.
